Abstract : IMITED ENERGY FROM PULSED Nd:YAG lasers. Theoretical results include a first order error analysis for the sensitivity of complex optical resonators, an extension of an existing computer program for mode sizes to the computation of these sensitivities, a series of design curves for normalized mode sizes and sensitivities of a trioptic (2 mirrors and 1 lens) resonator, and a discussion of the limitation of Q-switched performance in a single rod oscillator due to optical damage. Experimental results include a detailed investigation of the long pulse performance over a 'U' shaped profile of the mode size in a trioptic resonator, and the generation of over 60 mj of diffraction-limited, Q-switched energy at 20 pps. by operating the laser at the 'focentric' limit between a stable and unstable resonator.
