Abstract : The flow length required for mixing in a subsonic-flow CW chemical laser has been measured experimentally. The objectives of the mixing study were: (1) to determine the flow length required for mixing behind a bleed bar injector to aid in interpretation of kinetics and laser experiments; (2) to improve the mixing in such configurations and; (3) to demonstrate the effect of improved mixing on DF-CO2 laser performance. Flow conditions were selected which permitted the use of CO2 spontaneous emission as a mixing diagnostic. In a second phase of the program, the effects of various contaminants upon the performance of a DF-CO2 laser were measured. Laser efficiency was determined in the presence of COF2 contaminant with nitrogen and helium diluents and with CO contaminant with helium diluent. (Modified author abstract)
