Abstract : Low energy solar charged particles (LESP) and interplanetary plasma and magnetic field observations during 1967 have been analyzed and the results have been related to solar coronal structure. The coronal connection longitude was calculated assuming instantaneous Archemides spirals, and the injection profile was compared with coronal netural line structure inferred from H alpha synoptic charts. It was found that LESP (0.3-100 MeV) undergo organized transport in the solar corona and 'collimated convection' in interplanetary space. LESP tend to be confined to coronal magnetic polarity cells although the release cell may not be associated with the active region in which the LESP were accelerated. Evidence supporting extended acceleration of LESP has been found in several events. (Author)
