Abstract : Experiments have been completed which were used to outline a method of estimating the amount of sediment in suspension in an oscillating flow such as found near the ocean floor offshore of the breaker zone. The waves causing this suspension were assumed to be of small amplitude and relatively large length, permitting the linearization of the equations of motion and allowing a simpler experimental apparatus. The method of estimating sediment suspension is based on an equilibrium equation of sediment flux similar to the equation proposed by Einstein (1950) for sediment suspension in unidirectional steady flow.
