Abstract : Infrared thermography was successful in detecting flaws in wing tank structures through changes in temperature pattern under controlled conditions. The flaws detected by Thermovision included voids, cracks, indentations, a loose fuel inspection plate, defective counter sunk screws, material imperfections and damaged honeycomb sections. Laser beams used as a heat source have a limited capability in providing heat patterns of defective materials scanned by Thermovision, but are worthy of further investigation with some modifications.
