Abstract : The AFGWC macro-scale numerical upper-air analysis program for the Northern and Southern Hemispheres is described. The program produces wind, D-value, and temperature analyses at 14 levels from 850mb to 10mb, and moisture analyses at four levels, 850 mb through 400mb. A detailed explanation of the derivation of first guess fields is presented. The analysis technique is the method of successive corrections to a first guess field. Constraints are applied to the stability of each layer. (Author)
