Abstract : Data gathered during the Air Force Weapons Laboratory (AFWL) standard skid-resistance test conducted at Wurtsmith AFB, Michigan, on 10 October 1972 are analyzed. The test results indicate the runway surface had only fair skid-resistance properties and warrants retesting within 12 to 18 months to ensure the skid-resistance properties have not deteriorated further. When it is necessary to program improvements to the Wurtsmith AFB runway, a 2-inch asphaltic concrete overlay is recommended to eliminate chert 'pop outs.' (Author)
