Abstract : The SATAN 2 Programming Specification Manual (PSM) provides a detailed description for the SATAN 2 Model as implemented on the IBM 360/50/65 computer. SATAN 2, Simulation for the Assessment of Tactical Nuclear Weapons, is a model for the two-sided, open play of tactical nuclear weapons on simulated battlefields. With user-provided descriptions of the engaging forces, target acquisition rates, and a nuclear employment doctrine, SATAN 2 will automatically: Establish the battle area; deploy the forces; determine necessary reaction for actions taken; acquire targets; allocate nuclear weapons to fire on acquired targets; assess the effects of those fires; move the Forward Edge of Battle Area (FEBA); automatically interface with ATLAS (A Tactical, Logistical, and Air Simulation). The SATAN 2 Model is programmed in FORTRAN 4 for use on IBM 360/50/65 computers. (Author)
