Abstract : The goal of the project is to elucidate and manipulate the immunological factors involved in the acceptance or rejection of transplants. The problem has been approached by studying the immune factors controlling the growth or rejection of syngeneic SV-40 virus induced tumors in hamsters. The authors have developed methods of measurement of the tumor associated antigens (TAA) and have utilized these assays in following the purification and isolation of TAA. The next phase of the program is to chemically and physically modify the purified TAA to produce immunogens which will more or less selectively raise either a humoral or cellular immune response. The effects of such immunizations will be related to the growth or rejection of transplants. (Author) Portions of this document are not fully legible.
