Abstract : The experimental requirements for absolute measurements by 4 pi (beta)(gamma)-coincidence counting with efficiency variation are outlined. In this context the use and operating characteristics of a pressurized 4 pi (beta)-proportional counter are considered. Basically, when the counter is pressurized, energetic (beta)-particles deposit a larger fraction of their energies in the sensitive volume. The added property of proportionality then permits efficiency variation by low energy discrimination. This is especially advantageous for measurements on complex beta-gamma decay, electron capture and mixed radiations. (Author)
