Abstract : The making of plates and shells from different plastics can significantly reduce costs and facilitate the engineering constructions. The relative thickness of the plates and the shells is increased in this case. For this reason in many engineering problems the static and dynamic methods of analyzing shells based on the Kirchhoff-Love hypothesis are no longer applicable. As is known, the Kirchhoff-Love hypothesis permits neglecting the normal stresses perpendicular to the middle surface during comparison with tangential stresses to the surface, parallel to the middle, and also permits neglecting the inertia of rotation of the normal in the planes of the cross section. This work considers and evaluates by numerical examples compression of the normal, transverse shifts and inertia of shell rotation.
