Abstract : The effects of Triton WR 1339 on plasma lipids were studied in fasted and glucose-loaded rhesus monkeys. This compound produced a marked linear increase in plasma triglycerides (TG) during the first 4 hours of a 5-hour study period. Triglyceride secretion rates were determined in fasted and in glucose-loaded monkeys. Free fatty acid values (FFA) were depressed, while cholesterol and phospholipid values were unchanged. No evidence of hepatocellular or other tissue damage was noted at necropsy. These studies suggest that Triton administration is valuable in assessing rates of basal hepatic TG secretion in the rhesus monkey. (Modified author abstract)
