Abstract : An instrumental technique has been developed to measure complex amplitudes at six frequencies and three antennas for ionospheric drift studies. In cooperation with a Digisonde 128 or parts of it, the multifrequency complex amplitude scanner selects a set of two to six operating frequencies and changes receiver gain from pulse to pulse for each frequency, pulse width, height range and antenna. The digital data are interlaced with the preface which contains all the relevant operational information. Computer compatible recording formats prepare the magnetic tape recorded data for computer processing. Three identical systems are in operation at Eglin, Florida; Goose Bay, Labrador; and in a KC-135 aircraft of Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories. (Author)
