Abstract : The study reports on worldwide developments in the investigation of the phenomenon of superplasticity of materials. It summarizes the theoretical aspects of superplasticity as proposed by the foremost scientists in the field. Theories considered include: Nabarro-Herring creep, grain boundary diffusion, grain boundary sliding, dynamic recovery, and metastability. The study categorizes known superplastic metals and alloys, by presenting key properties such as optimum temperatures for superplasticity, percent elongations, and the strain rate sensitivity parameter. Attention is directed to the potential or known uses of superplastic materials. (Author)
