Abstract : Two major corrections are made to the Aro-Walsh determination of electron temperature of shock-heated plasma by means of microwave techniques. One correction concerns the reference level in the measurement of the plasma radiation temperature by means of the waveguide probe technique; it has the effect of consistently raising the experimentally determined electron temperature, yielding closer agreement between theory and experiment in the region of Mach 8.5 to 10.5. More importantly, the correction enhances the prominence of the region in which the results of this technique exceed the theoretical values, so that between Mach 7.9 and 8.5 the corrected waveguide probe results exhibit the same type of anomalous form as those obtained earlier by microwave horns. The second correction concerns Aro and Walsh's comparison of the electron plasma temperatures obtained by the waveguide probe with those obtained by microwave horns. (Modified author abstract)
