Abstract : The objective of the paper is to show how standard experimental designs and statistical techniques can be used by human factors engineers to significantly improve the quality of research data collected in applied environments. Although techniques of incomplete blocking have been employed in agricultural and chemical research for many decades to increase experimental efficiency and to obtain more precise information in poorly controlled environments, they have seldom been used in human factors research.
