Abstract : Wall deexcitation of N2 (v=1) was studied on a variety of different surfaces, using 4880 A laser radiation, the authors used the intensity of the anti-Stokes Raman scattering at 4382 A to monitor the N2 (v=1) concentrations. The two-dimensional diffusion equation with Poiseuille flow was solved to interpret the results. The lowest values of the deactivation coefficient were recorded for quartz and Pyrex after 24 hours of exposure to the microwave afterglow. The results allow some conclusions to be made concerning the mechanism of vibrational deexcitation on walls. (Modified author abstract)
