Abstract : Raman spectroscopy was used to detect small concentrations of environmental pollutants: nitrogen, oxygen, carbon monoxide, hydrogen chloride, nitric oxide, chlorine, hydrogen fluoride, water vapor, sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide, ammonia, acetylene, and ethane. Gas pressures ranging from one atm to a fraction of a torr were used. The gases were run both as pure samples and in the presence of one atm of air; rotational and vibrational spectra were analyzed and tabulated. The frequency best suited for quantitative studies was selected for each compound, also estimates for detectable ranges. (Author)
