Abstract : Research on a variety of hydrocarbon fuel properties and fuel additives is described. Studies concerning depletion of fuel system icing inhibitor from fuel upon storage and possible loss of lubricity additive upon exposure of fuels to water are discussed. Causes of fuel tank foam deterioration have been investigated and are described. Presented, also, are results from studies of the compatibility of certain fuel system materials with hydrocarbon fuels. Data are presented on high density fuels and fuel blends for which dielectric constants were measured as a function of temperature and on which low temperature behavior studies were conducted. The synthesis of the dimer of 7-methylnorbornadiene for evaluation as a high density fuel is described in detail. (Modified author abstract)
