Abstract : The report describes continued work of development of an S-band dual-mode reciprocal latching ferrite phase shifter using lithium-titanium ferrite. Particular emphasis is placed on the electronic driver and its interaction with the rf assembly to help stabilize phase shift performance over environmental conditions. Data on driver functions and sequence of operations is presented, as well as rf performance over temperature, and measured loss data up to a peak power level of more than 3.5 Kw. Additional studies of impedance matching have also taken place, and the results are summarized in this report. The main conclusions are that the junction susceptances between ferrite rod and waveguide are very important factors that can influence match. Systematic techniques for adjusting this junction susceptance and for establishing ceramic transformer dimensions have been worked out. Work has also begun on dual-mode phase shifters at C-band. Preliminary results indicate that a unit meeting bandwidth requirements can be met with reasonable ease. Insertion loss results are not as favorable, and it appears that meeting the goal of 1.0 dB loss may be very difficult. (Author)
