Abstract : The objective of this research was to determine the effect of competition on the cost of aircraft replenishment spare parts. A conceptual model was presented which depicts the relationships between the various cost factors and the identifiable benefits of competition. It indicates that the net savings (loss) accompanying a shift from sole-source to competitive procurement is a function of gross savings (loss) in procurement dollars, procurement data costs, administrative costs, quality costs, and reliability costs.
