Abstract : A transformation algorithm SLIDE is developed to solve fluid equations in most orthogonal coordinate systems. A very useful and unique feature of the algorithm allows the metric of the orthogonal system to be a function of time. Quasi-Lagrangian grids may then be employed to follow contours of some fluid quantity. One set of grid lines follow the contours and the other sets are constructed orthogonal. As the contours move during the evolution of the problem the metric changes as a function of time. The SLIDE algorithm is then used to solve the fluid equations in this moving coordinate system. Unlike most rezoned algorithms were considerable numerical diffusion is introduced, here the numerical diffusion is actually reduced by the rezoning process. (Author)
