Abstract : The work accomplished falls into the following seven categories: Development of a graft-versus-host (GVH) reaction to discriminate between closely-matched allogeneic cells; discovery that thymocyte immunocompetence is reduced soon after immunization to alloantigens; determination of the mechanism of action of soluble histocompatibility antigen in reducing immunocompetence; development of a local assay to measure GVH responsiveness, in which donor cells need not migrate at all to produce their effect; studies of the mechanism by which cyclophosphamide given to the host enhances the GVH reactivity of donor cells; studies of the effect of antilymphocyte serum in dissociating local from systemic GVH responsiveness; and studies of amoebae to determine if their surfaces possessed specific receptors analagous (or homologous) to cell-bound antibodies.
