Abstract : The development of an integrated optics approach to a tunable CO2 laser for application as a master oscillator or local oscillator employing a hollow planar waveguide structure is delineated herein. Laser operation has been demonstrated using a planar waveguide with transverse flow and transverse excitation, longitudinal flow and longitudinal excitation, all of which have had thickness dimensions between 470 and 1000 microns with pressures near 80 Torr. The above lasers have employed spherical and cylindrical Fabry-Perot reflectors. (Modified author abstract)
