Abstract : Studies have been carried out to determine the role of local immunity in influenza virus infection, and to investigate various parameters related to local immunization. The particle size in aerosol immunization was found to be important. Children respond in a similar fashion to adults. Aerosol-spray immunization elicited good protection in a subsequent influenza epidemic. The authors could not show significant protection against artificial challenge using aerosolized commercial gamma-globulin. (Author)
