Abstract : There is much current interest in the subject of scene analysis, the recognition of objects in photographic images. One way of recognizing objects is in terms of their shapes. Convenient means for representing shapes are provided by line structures. The research described here is concerned with the extraction of two-dimensional line structures from real photographs of both flat-faced and curved, three-dimensional objects. A new procedure for edge detection is described. (Modified author abstract)
