Abstract : According to literature data certain polyene antibiotics inhibit glycolysis in the bacterial and yeast cell. Polyene antibiotics also have a strong toxic effect on the animal organism. In connection with this the question arises of clarifying the effect of antibiotics on metabolism in the living organism. For this purpose a study was made of the effect of polyene antifungal antibiotics - the sodium salt of nystatin, pentaene 1454/69, and hexaene 868/9 - on glycolysis in brain tissue and erythrocytes.
