Abstract : As a result of investigations conducted recently the favorable effect of yttrium on the properties of magnesium alloys at room and elevated temperatures was established (1-4). The highest strength level characteristics of these alloys are reached after prolonged artificial aging, carried out immediately after pressure shaping without hardening. The possibility of raising the strength properties of aging magnesium alloys by means of relatively small strain (5-10%) conducted prior to artificial aging was investigated in detail on alloys alloyed with neodium, aluminum, zinc, etc., (5-8). In this case a significant hardening effect was achieved. The translation discusses research on the feasibility of raising the strength characteristics of magnesium-yttrium alloys coupled with plastic deformation and artificial aging.
