Abstract : The report describes a terrain model that has recently been developed within the Scientific and Engineering Systems Division of the Directorate for Management Information Systems, US Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal. Basically the model will provide the height above the sea level datum of a single point whose location is specified in the Universal Transverse Mercator grid system. The model is used with a driver which generates a series of closely spaced points describing a path over which terrain is to be examined. The heights are determined from topographic data provided by the Defense Mapping Agency in Washington, D.C. These data are extracted from topographic maps at an interval of 0.01 inch. The model enables one to examine terrain over entire theatres of operation at the 0.01-inch map interval. Estimates of accuracy of the heights are included in the report. (Author)
