Abstract : A review of the strategic, political and economic commitments of the United States in the Pacific makes it apparent that US presence will be required for the foreseeable future in order to ensure that the balance of power equation remains stable in this area. The political, economic and strategic impact is explored. It is concluded that with the possible exception of communication facilities, Micronesia offers many strategic and economic advantages for the United States once the future direction of Micronesia politics is determined.
