Abstract : The strategic importance of protecting and preserving the Indian system of democracy is viewed in terms of the alternatives that exist if India's freedom should be lost. The paper relfects upon the vitality of the United States policy and offers suggestions for establishing a more viable United States posture in this area of the world.
