Abstract : The reduction of titanium tetrachloride by sodium is a complex physicochemical process which involves a series of parallel and successive reactions. In order to study such processes the authors developed a new method which makes it possible to evaluate concurrently the rate of the reaction, thermal effect and the degree of development in the gaseous phase, e.g., to study concurrently both the kinetic and certain thermodynamic relationships. The method is called thermographic. The working parameters for this method is the heat flow produced by the thermal effect of the reaction. In essence, the method consists of measuring the heat flow, checking it against standardized heat flow and recording the results of the comparison on thermobarograms.
