Abstract : The device provides detection and regeneration of digital data and also transceiver control in relay operation of tactical secure speech transmission systems. It is designed to operate with speech security systems of both the NESTOR and SAVILLE families, over either radio or wireline circuits. The engineering effort during the initial quarter included a study of repeater operation with noisy signals and with predicted wireline distortion. The results of the wireline study indicate that operation with up to approximately six miles of line can be provided with the MX-9331 and still maintain adequately reliable data detection and reasonable battery power drain. A preliminary breadboard of the signal processing circuits has been built and is currently being tested. (Modified author abstract)
