Abstract : Eight aldehydes have been tested as therapeutic compounds for cyanide poisoning in mice. The most effective are glyoxal trimer and glyceraldehyde. These increase the LD50 2.5 to 3 times. No correlation was found between activation of the carbonyl group resulting from nearby electron-withdrawing substituents and therapeutic value. (Author)
