Abstract : The paper establishes that education is a basic prerequisite to world peace. Numerous individuals and groups have advocated various proposals for world peace, however, none has succeeded. There are basically two approaches to the problem: (1) basic education that will eliminate illiteracy in the world, and (2) education which will free the minds of men so as to provide an environment of understanding and cooperation in the solution of the deepseated problems which propel mankind into war. The model takes the form of a scope and sequence of basic peace education which can be applied directly in English-speaking countries. The UNESCO is proposed as the vehicle to implement these ideas throughout the world. (Modified author abstract)
