Abstract : A technology study effort was conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of a Fluidic Roll Rate Control for High Acceleration Terminal Homing Missiles. The fluidic system developed under this contract contained a Laminar Angular Rate Sensor (LARS), laminar proportional gain block, turbulent proportional amplifier, digital logic elements, low pressure diaphragm amplifier, high pressure power interface valve, bi-directional variable thrust nozzles, cold gas supply, solid propellant warm gas generator, and pressure regulation system. The cold gas supply was used to power the fluidic components and to control the variable thrust nozzle's curtain and direction. A separate cold gas supply rather than the available warm gas generator supply was used because of the amount of contaminants in the gases derived from solid propellants. System and component requirement definition, component design and testing, major subsystems assembly and test, system integration and assembly into the missile housing, and system test and evaluation were accomplished under this contract.
