Abstract : The purpose of this study is the thermodynamic investigation of polystyrene over a range of temperatures up to 6000K and pressures up to 1000 atmospheres. Because polystyrene is subject to thermal breakdown and styrene has a relatively low boiling point (418.29K), only the gaseous phase was considered in determining the equilibrium compositions for the above parameters. The results of the computational program are presented in both tabular and graphic form. The latter is a conventional Mollier diagram in which specific enthalpy is plotted against specific entropy, with cross plots of temperature, pressure, and molecular weight. (Author)
