Abstract : A survey of the literature has been conducted to obtain and compile existing experimental data on the pertinent mechanical properties of steels subject to dynamic loading conditions and under a wide temperature range. Data showing the variation of yield strength and elongation with strain rate and temperature are categorized and tabulated. The effect of the dynamic properties of steels due to strain rate variation at room temperature is shown graphically. Separate curves for steels in tension and compression are presented. A comprehensive reference and bibliography section is provided. The behavior of steels under dynamic loading is generally different from that under static loading. The yield strength is higher under dynamic loading, and it decreases with increasing temperature. (Modified author abstract)
