Abstract : A system for producing rectangular 0.5 MV pulses with rise times of about 1 nsec and duration between 5 and 20 nsec is described. A coaxial line is pulse-charged from a Martin-type autotransformer and then discharged by a fast-rise high pressure switch into a matched CuSO4 load resistor. A low-inductance capacitive voltage divider allows monitoring of the pulse. The jitter and delay in the discharge switch total less than a microsecond, allowing synchronization with other events. The system has been in use for 1-1/2 years with satisfactory results. (Author)
