Abstract : Vol. 6, Part I, calculates the bare-engine noise signature and typical flyover sound levels of small, installed, aircraft turbopropulsion engines. Techniques were employed or adapted to accurately predict the radiated acoustic signature (during either static test or aircraft flyover) of turboprop and turbofan propulsion systems in the 80- to 1000-shaft-horsepower class for turboprops and in the 400- to 5000-pound-thrust class for turbofans. In order to adequately predict the flyover noise signature of such an engine, it was first necessary to predict the contributions to that signature from each component. Garrett AiResearch and their subcontractor, Wyle Laboratories, Inc., cooperatively evaluated published prediction methods for each source, using measuring small-engine noise data. (Author)
