Abstract : The Advanced Ocean Engineering Laboratory (AOEL) at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography has been working on the design and testing of stable floating platforms based upon the FLIP concept. The platforms under study at AOEL have two or more legs, each leg being comparable in size to FLIP, i.e., 300 feet long, 20 feet in diameter full scale. Small models (1/100 scale) are tested in the Scripps wave channel. The heave response was determined for each model, and in some cases the surge, sway, or pitch angle response was also determined.
