Abstract : Investigations of new bulk and thin film conductor materials with the A-15 structure have yielded several new high transition temperature compounds. The most significant of these was thin film niobium-germanium prepared by a new sputtering technique. Under the proper sputtering conditions films have been deposited with the highest transition temperature, 23K, of any presently known superconductor. In addition, techniques and apparatus have been devised, constructed and tested for the assembly, consolidation, cold drawing and heat treatment of composite multifilamentary conductors employing niobium tin and vanadium gallium. The superconducting and metallurgical properties of a number of these conductors were extensively investigated. (Author)
