Abstract : The purpose of the investigation is to clarify the nature of formation of ectopic rhythm in a locally created aconitine focus, and also to clarify the role of cholinergic influences on the changes in activity of the heterotopic focus. Conclusions drawn were as follows: The appearance of an ectopic focus of excitation in the atrium under the influence of aconitine is accompanied by a disturbance of the processes of repolarization and the appearance of a 'secondary plateau', in the presence of which an extrasystole arises. In response to the stimulation of the vagus nerve, there are various changes of rhythm from the heterotopic focus: increased frequency of ectopic rhythm and a temporary halt of heterotopic activity. The nature of the response of the heterotopic focus to the neurogenic activity depends on the phase of action of aconitine and on the degree of stimulation of the nerves. Experimental data indicate the possibility of the ectopic nature of fibrillation without circular movement.
