Abstract : The methods of powder metallurgy, consisting of compressing in one way or another and subsequently sintering, the products formed and their properties and uses are discussed. Metal powders and the various processes for pressing the products, and the sintering of cermet materials and the various types of articles produced from them are discussed. Cermet and hard alloy tools are discussed and properties and uses of various compositions are tabulated. Mineral ceramics, including quartz, emery, corundum, carborundum and boron carbide are discussed. Various cermets and their mechanical properties are given and the various types of diamonds and diamond-bearing tools, properties and purposes, are discussed.
