Abstract : The principal objective of the project was to study the enhanced reaction rate of vibrationally excited hydrogen in homogeneous, gas phase chemical processes. The flow-system method that was employed, although capable of generation, detection, and measurement of H2 (v = 1) concentrations in the range from 0.01% to 1%, proved to be unsuitable for the study of homogeneous processes because of the unexpectedly rapid relaxation of the excited hydrogen against the walls of the apparatus. Nonetheless, some results were obtained which bear strongly on other work in similar systems. (Author)
