Abstract : The percents escape of protein standards were shown to be directly proportional to their molecular weights. The 4,000 dalton standard demonstrated a loss of 40% after 24 hours of simple dialysis; standards equal to or greater than 9,000 daltons demonstrated an almost negligible loss (2% or less). Dialysis membrane retained none of the 4,000 dalton standard during ultrafiltration and demonstrated escapes of 6% to 24% for standards with molecular weights between 9,000 and 45,000 daltons. Loss of the 67,000 and 150,000 dalton standards during ultrafiltration was negligible. (Author)
