Abstract : The effects of alloying and modifying elements on the castability and linear shrinkage of Kh17N2 steel were studied. Cerium and mischmetal are more active modifiers than neodymium, boron, and lanthanum. Kh17N2 steel which is alloyed with 1% molybdenum and modified by boron and lanthanum has an increase in castability of 17% and a decrease in linear shrinkage of 40% at a casting temperature of 1530C.
