Abstract : A current meter has been designed which vectorially integrates velocity in situ and stores the results on magnetic tape. By processing the data in the instrument, the sampling rate can be made fast enough to avoid the problem of aliasing without the need for impractically large amounts of data storage. The sensors for the meter are standard--an orientation vane and Savonius rotor. The innovation is the manner in which the sensor information is treated in the instrument. The signals are resolved into components representing the North-South, East-West vector components and are integrated by digital electronics. The integration takes place over the entire sampling interval at which time the results are recorded on magnetic tape in digital form. (Author)
