Abstract : Accurate estimates of Cartesian coordinates of a target using any of the existing range instrumentation systems depend, in general, on such factors as target position, number of instruments, their location, their accuracy and their mix. The present report analyzes the problem of site deployment pattern of instrument systems, and develops a method for selecting an optimal theoretical configuration of stations for cinetheodolites (telescopes), DOVAP's and radars, respectively, to minimize target position. It assumes that the target is stationary and is approximately symmetrically located relative to the sites of the tracking instrument. Optimal elevation angles are derived, and mathematical expressions relating TPU to the various interplaying parameters are obtained. (Author)
