Abstract : Principal and critical parts of the mathematical processing in the Digital Mapping System (DMS) have been formulated, developed, tested and evaluated, using actual digitized density data from aerial photographs. The results indicate that the DMS, including the infiltration procedure and mixed coordinates, is feasible. Automatic matching and infiltration have been demonstrated successfully in a variety of scenes. Recommendations are made for further development of the DMS. The DMS is an automatic system for producing contoured topographic maps, profiles, and orthophotographs accurately from aerial photographs, by digital methods only.
